*The resilience is a new approach in the social, educational,
correctional and therapeutic work with children. The word “resilience” characterizes the
sustainability to hit i.e. it relates to the physics of the bodies. This word
gains different meaning in psychology – to the sustainability we add one
dynamic aspect – the person with trauma recovers and starts to develop
himself again.
The resilience can be treated as the ability of one person or social system
to develop itself or to grow under very difficult conditions. One similar
to this ability supposes: protection and defense, sustainability,
rebuilding and planning in perspective. It builds itself through a process
which continues the whole life in interaction between the individual
/social system/ and his surrounding. Therefore this ability changes
depending on the specific conditions and the stages in life. Never
everything is won entirely, never everything is lost entirely: in this
consists the realism and hope of the resilience. Another specific
feature of the resilience is that the accent is put on the shared
responsibility of all affected parties.
This
definition is formulated by the trainers of resilience Stephen Vanistendal
and Michiel Monseu
